Being a Complementary Healthcare Practitioner is absolutely fantastic but sometimes it can be a lonely world especially if you have your own practice working from home. You may be really well qualified and have passed exams with flying colours but that alone does not make you a good practitioner - experience does. Any healthcare Professional will require experience if you approach them to carry out work in their area.

A lot of practitioners wanting to work in the Palliative Care field have major problems in getting the experience they need to carry out this work. I was lucky in so far as I was contacted by the Holistic Cancer Care Centre at James Cook University Hospital to cover for 10 weeks for a practitioner that wanted to do a pilot study. Whilst carrying out this cover work I heard of Palliative Care Course at the Butterwick Hospice. Although I had been qualified and had my own practice for 7 years this course helped me so much in the work that I was doing at the Holistic Centre it gave me an insight into the protocols when giving treatments to cancer patients and the background and experience that I didn't have in the cancer field. The course was extremely professional , informative and I found the placements that came along with the course to be invaluable. I would strongly recommend the Palliative Care Course for any practitioner wanting to be involved in that field. It helped me tremendously and now I am Deputy Manager of the Holistic Cancer Care Centre.
